Weinman vs Jones
World Series of Poker, Main Event, 2023. The final hand.
A long think for the 2023 title
The hand
Steven Jones and Daniel Weinman. Blinds 1.25M / 2.5M, ante 2.5M.
Before the flop
- Blinds 1.25M and 2.5M. Jones has the button.
- Jones raises to 7M.
- Weinman calls.
The flop
- Weinman checks.
- Jones bets 6M.
Weinman raises to 18.5M. Why
Weinman. Top pair with a good kicker is well ahead of a button bet, and a raise charges the spade and straight draws on this board.
- Jones calls.
The turn
Weinman bets 38M. Why
Weinman. Jones called the raise with a jack, a pair below or a draw. A bet keeps charging all of them.
- Jones raises to 146M and is all in.
- Weinman calls. The famous decision
The river

The turn
The famous decision
Weinman. A long think usually means a hand that is not sure it is good: a weaker jack or a middle pair, not a set. King-jack beats those, and Weinman said the think felt like real uncertainty.
Jones had a jack with an eight. The king kicker played, and Weinman won the title.
The result
Weinman wins at the showdown with Pair of Jacks.

Why it is famous
On the final hand of the 2023 Main Event Steven Jones thought for minutes on the turn, then moved all in with a pair of jacks and an eight kicker. Daniel Weinman called with the same pair and a king, and won $12.1 million. He told PokerNews the long think "felt like genuine uncertainty," a "middling pair or a weak jack."
What to take from it
A long think before an all in more often means a medium hand than a monster.
Sources
What the sources do not say. Jones’s stack is worked out from his bets and his all in. Weinman covered him easily: heads-up began 443 million to 159.5 million. How long Jones thought before moving all in is given as a few minutes and as more than four.
