What your equity means
The win figure is your equity: your share of the pot if every card were dealt out from here, over and over. It is not a promise about this hand. A hand with 60% equity loses four times in ten, and that is fine; what matters is whether the price you pay to stay in is lower than your share. Ties split the pot, so the share of the pot line counts a tie as part of a win.
Outs and the rule of 2 and 4
An out is a card still in the deck that makes your hand better than it is now. Count them, then multiply: by 4 on the flop when you will see both the turn and the river, by 2 for one card. It is quick and runs a little high for big draws. The calculator counts the outs for you from the flop on, and pot odds and the rule of 2 and 4 walks through the counting itself.
A worked example
You hold J♥10♥ on a flop of A♥7♥2♣, against A♠Q♣ with top pair. Nine hearts make your flush. A Jack or a Ten pairs you but still loses to their Aces, so they are not clean outs. The rule says 9 × 4 = 36%; the exact chance of a heart by the river is 36.4%. Put the hand in the calculator and it counts all 990 turn and river cards: you win 38.6%, a little more than the flush alone, because two pair or trips on the turn and river win too.
From equity to a call: pot odds
Equity tells you what you win; pot odds tell you what a call costs. If the pot is 90 after their bet and you must call 30, you put in 30 to win 120: that is 25.0% of the final pot. With 38.6% equity you call and come out ahead over time; with less than 25.0% you would fold. Pot odds has the full method and more draws.

Questions
What is equity in poker?
Your share of the pot if every card were dealt out: how often your hand wins from here. A flush draw on the flop wins about 35% of the time by the river: about 35% equity.
How does this poker odds calculator work?
It deals out the rest of the board and every other hand thousands of times and scores each showdown with the same hand-ranking code Quads teaches with. Where there are few enough ways for the cards to fall, from the turn on against one hand or from the flop against a known hand, it counts every one of them exactly instead.
How accurate is it?
Against one player it deals 40,000 hands, with more players 20,000, which puts the win figure within about half a point either way; the line under the odds says how close each answer is. Counted answers are exact.
What are the odds with pocket Aces?
Against one random hand, pocket Aces win about 84.9% of the time. Against pocket Kings it is about 81.1%. Every extra player takes a share, so add opponents above to see the number fall.
Does it work for Omaha?
No. It is for Texas Hold’em, where each player holds two cards and shares five on the board.
